Website Launch: Aqui Cal-Mex

My my my Aqui, don’t you look fabulous! It’s our pleasure to announce the launch of Aqui’s new website. Working with our client we wanted to come up with a design that’s soothing, fresh, artistic, and, of course, eye catching. We were given the challenge of keeping the original logo, colors and background images from their old site, and we built up from there. The final result was a very happy client and another design we’re proud to add to our portfolio.

More About Aqui

Aqui is uniquely known for their natural, wild, organic menu, and let’s not forget their “feet tingling” Industrial Strength Margaritas™, Swirls™ and new Martini Swirls™. Starting back in 1994, A renowned chef, known for creating innovative inspired California cuisine, and an experienced fast food operator joined together. The fast food operator gave the chef a simple challenge: “Create fine dining food using the flavors of the Southwest, Asia, California and Latin America. We will match the food with gorgeous decor and fill the place with art. Then, we’ll add order-at-the counter service to make it hassle free. And above all, we will make it affordable.”

And on April 11, 1994, the first Aqui Cal-Mex restaurant was introduced in Willow Glen. In all, Aqui now has four locations in the San Jose Area. Each has its own unique flavor, with one of a kind custom artwork from local artists.

about the Development and Design

The bulk of what makes this project great is its foundation. We worked very closely with the team at Aqui Cal-Mex to come up with a design both unique and appealing to their taste. At Aqui, it’s all about the spectacular food, and we had to make that front and center. Every page at aquicalmex.com has a unique design tailored to the content for the given page. We wanted to make sure visiting the website was just as much of an experience as it is when you visit one of the Aqui locations to grab a bite to eat.

Developing Aqui was an absolute blast! The team here loved the opportunity to actually taste the food while we were developing the site. There’s nothing quiet like coding a food menu for Aqui while eating the food at the same time. Don’t worry, we keep our keyboards clean here at TrevNet. One of the challenges for coding this website was giving each page that fresh look, so as you’re browsing the website, you don’t get bored. We were able to do this and still deliver the content the customer may be looking for when visiting the site.

aqui-jump-toWhile we’re on the topic of the menu pages at Aqui Cal-Mex, let’s point out some of the features here. We know the menu can seem intimidating, especially when you’re not sure what to get! So we added a “jump to” menu button that lets you go right to a specific type of food on the menu.

We’ve got a multi-column menu with nice clean text in an organized list. Thanks to WordPress, we were able to easily set up this page so the team at Aqui Cal-Mex could keep it up to date. You can be sure that any time you visit the website to look at the menu, you’ll see the latest and greatest!

One of the pages we had a lot of fun developing was the Experience Aqui page. This page is an interactive design that allows you to navigate the site in a different kind of way. Simply mouse over over the pictures and get a quick textual description, click it and it will take you to the specific page!

aqui-locationsWhen you’re ready to head over to one of the Aqui Cal-Mex Locations, check out the location page. We absolutely love the Google Maps integration with the page. On this page, you can click on each location to get more information, or just use the map at the top. If you need to see what the restaurant hours are or maybe some extra information when finding it, clicking on the location will show a modal with more information.

It’s Mobile Ready!

A large portion of the traffic at the Aqui website is coming from a mobile platform. Whether that be from your phone or a tablet, we wanted to make sure the website looked great! The whole site was developed to be a responsive design, which means the website and its content will adapt to the size of the display and render only what’s needed, depending on the platform. For Aqui Cal-Max, we really had the ability to be innovative with with the website on a mobile platform like the iOS or Android powered smart phones. We created a pull out (via tap) sidebar menu that lets anyone easily browse the site.

In Closing

One of the perks we had experienced when designing for this client is the delicious food they provided us as inspiration for their site. Ever since, we’ve been hooked. If you haven’t been to Aqui yet I suggest you add it to your list of places to try; it really is an experience you have to try for yourself. After many visits we have never been disappointed. With fresh food, affordable prices and an amazing atmosphere, now accompanied with a awesome new website – Aqui is going places!

More About The Company

What started as a Pelvic Health and Rehabilitation Center in San Francisco in 2006, Pelvic Pain Rehab has now opened their doors in three locations in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Los Gatos. One of the things that make their clinics unique, is that as physical therapists they focus solely on the pelvic floor and pelvic girdle muscles.

The PHRC team are also committed to educating the medical community and the public about pelvic health. Toward that end, Liz, Stephanie and Marcy are frequent speakers on the topic of pelvic floor physical therapy at different events around the globe.

In addition to their regular speaking engagements, organizational activities, and community outreach, the PHRC staff writes an award-winning weekly blog where they tackle a variety of issues related to pelvic health and rehab.

Design and Development

When PHRC approached us, they were not new to the online scene and knew what they wanted. They already had a successful blog and needed a revamped website to go with it. The design had to be unique, show off their personality, and really leave a lasting impression. On top of all that, they wanted it in WordPress so they could easily manage their website content and navigation structure, while also having the capability to manage their blog seamlessly on the same platform. Their existing website had so much content, it made it easy for us to learn about their company and get a feel for what kind of website they needed. So, we had all this content, a blog, and a great story; this left us with one choice – dive in head first!

menusWe ended up creating a large navigation and a dual slider. We don’t often need to develop a 3-tier drop-down menu, but when we finished, it looked great! We designed and developed a multi-sectional slider as well. One section had images with text; the other, videos. It’s important to keep your home page always evolving and growing as your company does, so we gave them the ability to manage this content quickly and effectively. The next important issue for PHRC was making sure their clients knew where to schedule an appointment, so we made sure this was highlighted on every page.

The team at Pelvic Pain Rehabilitation Center understood the importance of a strong social media presence and wanted it integrated with their website. We integrated their facebook and twitter feeds right on their home page! You’ll find it on their blog, their homepage, and any page in-between that people may want to read and share with their friends. With social integration, calendar events, recent blog posts, and easy-to-manage home page content, we’ve made it easy to keep their home page up to date on a daily basis.

Responsive Design

The folks at PHRC wanted to make sure their website was easy to use regardless of what mobile platform their readers might be using. We set them up with a responsive design. This means every page of their custom website design will automatically adapt to the user’s window size. We went through each page and optimized it for mobile platforms. The result was great and seeing it all come together on the hand-held devices is truly rewarding.

In Closing

PHRC (as well as TrevNet Media) were very pleased with the final results of this design. Keeping a steady flow of communication between their staff and our team greatly helped in making PHRC’s vision a reality. With a fresh new look and feel to show off their talented company, you can expect to see and hear a lot more of Pelvic Pain Rehab in the future.

Website Launch: Gagliardi Insurance Services

We’ve rolled out with another one! This website has been designed for a great company who provides a mix of specialty insurance coverage for almost any venue you can imagine. Gagliardi Insurance Services was a lot of fun to work with. They maintained high energy and excellent communication throughout the whole design process. We definitely look forward to working with them in the future.

G.I.S. offers a wide range of sports & entertainment insurance products that are available to both clients and brokers. With over 20 years of experience in their industry, they have built insurance programs designed to cater to sports & entertainment organizations complete insurance needs. Their Combative Sports program has also been very successful, having insured countless events across the board. From your local gym wrestling events to the Pay-Per-View televised boxing events in Las Vegas, Gagliardi has been there, and will be there for you, providing the coverages and limits you need.

Development Process

application-downloadsHere is another WordPress powered website we developed. Gagliardi wanted the ability to fully manage their website, its content and navigational structure. They also needed a blog, which they didn’t have with their old website. They needed the ability to add their (PDF) application downloads relevant to each page in the quickest, simplest way possible. The applications are listed in the sidebar as well as on the Apply Now page, which is updated automatically as new applications are updated.

We had a chance to explore some new types of design with this one. We wanted a really big in-your-face interactive home page to show off what Gagliardi does. We came up with a dynamic slider that expanded with the whole page and placed text on top of each slide. The three columns on the home page are actually tabular that expand when you mouse over them. We used the Basic jQuery Slider plugin for the slider and the rest was custom coded.

Gagliardi’s Online Application System

insurance_applicationsUp until Gagliardi had our team of highly trained monkeys behind them, they had all of their customers print, fill out, and fax back in their application submissions. Needless to say, they came to us for a solution and we were able to get them a fully featured online application system.

You can now sign up and fill out their “Youth Football” application online. The entire process has been digitized. We took their 15 page print out application and converted it into an interactive step-by-step online guide. We had to come up with a system that would allow people to fill out the application in multiple passes. Once an account is registered, the user can login again at any time and resume their online application from where they left off.

Since the applications are so long, we really wanted to hold the hand of the end user while they filled it out. We worked very closely with the team behind Gagliardi to fine tune their online application forms. It was important that their clients found the registration process simple and easy to use.

Throughout the process of filling out the online application, there are dozens of tool tips and hints to help the user along the way. One of the biggest problems with doing a large application like this without the help of an application system is doing the math yourself. This takes time for employees to check, recheck, confirm, and then finally hand off to the client for approval. We wanted to circumvent this whole process by doing the math right in front of the user while they’re filling out the application. As the user moves through each step and fills out the form, the numerical data is calculated on the fly. When the application is completed, a copy is sent to both parties.

Over the next few months, we will be integrating all of their online applications with this new system. We were able to provide Gagliardi with a fully featured administration system to manage all of the submitted applications and interact with them. The success with this system has already been shown as their clients use it and we are grateful for the opportunity to provide such a tool.

It’s always nice to build a website and fulfill the vision of our clients down to the last detail. The smooth design process and great communication we had with them only further demonstrates the kind of company they are. We know their new site will provide them many exciting new opportunities with clients and brokers. We’re excited to work with them in the future as their website and online application grows with their company.

Hot off the press! We’re thrilled to share QStar Charters‘ new website that we have officially launched today! We know how exciting it can be for a new business to own their first website, and we were honored to be the ones to build it for them.

Whether you’re traveling for business, formal events, weddings, special occasions, sporting events or concerts (you name it) – QStar Charters will be there to provide you with reliable, attentive, VIP service. QStar also offers several event packages for you to choose from. They strive to have the best in every aspect of the transportation industry.

This website was placed in a smaller category of websites we do where the colors are inverted. It’s not often we get to design with a black background and white text. Our designer had a lot of fun creating a design that was dark, but still fresh and bold. This was a simple website where a content management system was not needed. We integrated a custom-coded online reservation  form and google maps dynamic content.

We’re always happy to design a web presence for new businesses. We hope that they are as pleased with the final product as we are. We are excited for this up and coming business, and expect to hear great things from this company.
